What you should know about a thread Lift

Am I a candidate for a Revitalizing Thread Lift?

Candidates for a thread lift can be of any age depending on the individual’s skin condition. Most are aged between 30 and 60 however younger and older candidates may also be suitable depending on the Doctor’s advice. Patients aged 17 – 77 may be suitable for specific indications of plastic surgery. Your Doctor will advise you if you are a suitable candidate for a thread lift either alone or in combination with another procedure.

How long does the thread lift last?

A revitalizing thread lift can last for several years, depending on your age, lifestyle including whether you smoke, sleeping patterns and genetic disposition. An advantage of the dissolving threads is that additional threads can be inserted at a later date if further lift procedures are required.

Does the procedure change the facial features?

Unlike traditional surgical facelifts the Promoitalia revitalizing threads rejuvenate the face without changing your natural features. Facial soft tissues are just repositioned to their original location. After a thread lift you can typically expect to look like you did several years ago.

Does the procedure leave scars on the skin?

When performed by a specially trained doctor, any scars can be avoided.

Is the procedure considered safe?

As there is no cutting of the skin and only a local anaesthetic is used, the procedure is considered considerably less complicated than a full surgical facelift. Your doctor will explain the procedure and answer any questions. Please follow your doctor’s directions to ensure the best results.

Does the procedure need to be performed in an operating theatre?

No, it is not compulsory. The operation can be performed in any equipped theatre or day surgery setting.

How long do I have to stay at home to recover?

There is generally no requirement to stay at home after the procedure; it is a matter of personal choice. However, it is important over the first few days not to stress or put pressure on the treated area. It is suggested to sleep on two or three raised pillows for the first three to four days.

How long does the procedure take?

A qualified, experienced doctor who is trained in and familiar with this procedure will take approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Patients can usually return home after 1 to 2 hours.

What are Promoitalia threads – and how are they different?

Promoitalia threads are dissolvable threads, made of polylattide and caprolactone – the same components that, for more than 50 years, have been used in dissolvable sutures commonly used for medical procedures. However, Promoitalia threads are quite different from the older conventional threads that were used in thread lift procedures. The first and major difference is that unlike conventional threads that are smooth, Promoitalia threads have small soft barbs (also known as cogs) that provide a superior soft grip on surrounding tissues.

The Promoitalia threads are available as a choice of permanent or absorbable threads. Promoitalia threads offer a revitalizing lift that can be achieved quickly with a minimum of downtime and without any visible scars. The advantage of absorbable threads is that they will not impact on any future procedures (should you wish further thread lifts or other lifts in years to come).

Will I need a general anaesthetic?

No. A Revitalizing Thread Lift requires only a local anaesthetic as opposed to the general anaesthesia used in full face-lift procedures.

There is no need for hospitalization, as the procedure can be conducted in your medical practitioner’s suite.

How long does the procedure take?

A qualified, experienced doctor who is trained in and familiar with this procedure will take approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Patients can usually return home after 1 to 2 hours after the procedure.

What is the recovery process?

Immediately after the operation – and for the first two hours – cold compresses are recommended to help avoid bruising.

Patients are not required to stay at home following a Revitalizing Thread Lift – it’s a matter of personal choice. However, it is important during the first days not to stress or exert pressure on treated facial areas. It is advisable to sleep on two or three pillows to raise shoulders for the first three or four days. A neck pillow can also be used.

At around the three-week mark, patients can confidently resume their usual lifestyle.

Are there any side effects?

While side effects are rare, patients may experienced light bruising, which will dissipate in one or two days.

In some cases (such as when patients have not practiced the therapy prescribed by their Revitalizing Thread Lift surgeon), slight infections can occur around the areas of the thread extremities. These will need to be treated medically and are usually quickly resolved.

Many doctors will suggest natural preventative therapies prior to the procedure. Therapies based on arnica plus vitamin K (which reduce the bruising resolution period by up to 60%) before the procedure is carried out.

What conditions must I tell my doctor about before a Revitalizing Thread Lift?

Patients must inform their Doctor, prior to the procedure, if they are using anti-coagulants eg aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, or are suffering from any other illness.

Can I combine a Revitalizing Thread Lift with other procedures?

It is not uncommon to have this procedure combined with other cosmetic procedures such as Botulinum toxin to reduce facial muscle activity, Dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid or fat to enhance skin volume and laser therapy to improve skin texture and collagen formation.

In fact, Mara Aesthetics suggests the Revitalizing Thread Lift belongs in the hierarchy of anti-ageing procedures (see below) and adding to the pyramid’s base will support the results at every stage.

What will I look like after the operation?

Compared with traditional lifting – which leaves visible changes and clear (even if well hidden) scars, the Revitalizing Thread Lift does not leave scars or alter the face’s original features.

So the answer to this question is: “Look back at pictures of yourself some years ago”
