Our skin is a living organ, largest in our body. It’s main job is to protect and regulate the temperature and excess water loss. As it is the outer layer it is subject to a lot of abuse and unnecessary hits from the outside world. Hormones, sugar intake, nutrition, medicines and topical application of lotions and potions can have a huge effect on how your skin reacts and appears.
Acne is a disease that affects up to 80% of the population. It is most commonly associated with teenagers but increasing number of adults are experiencing breakouts later in their life.
Little is known about the causes of acne but researchers have identified there is ‘good’ and ‘bad’ acne bacteria and that not all acne bacteria causes pimples. They have even identified one strain of acne bacteria that can help to maintain healthy skin. But for everyone, this is not the case.
Depending on how severe the acne is, we design treatment programs individually. Often a medical consultation with a doctor is needed, in clinic treatments and applications of topical treatments at home. One rule stands out more than anything: when you find a treatment protocol that works for you, DO NOT STOP it. Acne tends to easily come back if treatments are stopped as soon as the clearance of the skin is achieved. The clearance of acne can take months and then it is often all about maintaining the results.
The results, and how fast they are achieved, are quite individual, but I dare say we do get great results treating acne. More than often, we can reduce inflammation and pimples within couple of weeks. Some of our treatments give faster results than others and we can customise treatment program to suit your needs and timetable.
Our clinic offers multiple treatment options to suit almost everybody’s needs. They range from peels, facials and topical skin care to laser/light treatments and medications.
Peels can be a fast way to unblock pores and regulate the cell turnover for healthier and more responsive skin. Acne prone skin often has a thick layer of dead skin laying on the surface and blocking pores. Vitamin A based peels are fantastic to help to clear these cells and boost up the natural function of the skin, often 2-3 treatments is required few weeks apart. For maintenance, we use enzyme and glycolic peels, this is after we have achieved close to clear complexion and want to keep up the good results.
Topical application of skin care at home is as important, if not more important, to control acne breakouts. Skin care is also responsible for the best results of the in clinic treatments. Our clinic stocks 302 Skin Care, a natural and very potent skin care for even most problematic skin. 302 products can reduce inflammation, protect the skin and kill bacteria in the pores. They improve the cell metabolism and glucose intake for better cellular energy and function.
We have 4 different lasers and 2 IPL’s at The Beauty Clinic. For acne, IPL is a good choice of treatment for lighter coloured skin to reduce inflammation.
Photodynamic Therapy, PDT, is one of the best treatments to give fast results at clearing acne long term. There is downtime involved with this treatment, but the results can be amazing even after just 3 treatments. This is a medical treatment and a consultation with Dr Daniela Bitlan is required before going ahead with it.
One of the popular treatments we use for acne is LED Light Therapy. Light Emitting Diodes have proven to clear acne gently and fast without side effects. We use blue and red lights that eliminate the bacteria in the surface and reduce inflammation deeper in the skin. When blue light strikes acne bacteria cells it sets of a chemical reaction that causes the bacteria to self destruct. Without bacteria around, acne clears up. Red light is healing, it’s ability to penetrate very deep works extremely well for inflammation. LED is a must treatment for everyone suffering from acne. Treatment takes 15-20min and there is no downtime at all.
When pores of the skin is clocked with comedones/blackheads, it needs to be cleaned and the excess sebum extracted from pores. It is a simple deep cleansing facial that we can use for this. Anti-bacterial topical product will then get to the pores and keep them clean.
