Pigmentation and melasma*

Melasma is a well known chronic skin condition caused by a combination of genetic predisposition, hormones and sun exposure. Melasma has a characteristic distribution over the cheeks, forehead and upper lip and is a common cause of concern amongst women.

At The Beauty Clinic there is a emphasis on correct diagnosis. This is important as Melasma is different to other types of skin pigmentation and requires treatment specific to this.  The Beauty Clinic offers a variety of treatments to improve Melasma including:

  • Medical grade pigment inhibitor creams containing ingredients such as hydroquinone, kojic acid and azelaic acid
  • Topical oral or topical Tranexamic acid in selected cases
  • Start skin booster creams including ingredients such as skin anti-oxidants, vitamin C, Vitamin B3 and Vitamin A to assist the skin’s ability to prevent pigmentation
  • Sun protection
  • Q Switched laser to successfully break down pigment once the above melanocyte inhibiting regimens have been implemented
  • Chemical peels as second line treatment to improve epidermal Melasma. This includes:
    • Glycolic Peels
    • Retinol Peels
    • Jessner Peels
